Connect Slack

Connecting Slack to OverlayQA posts issue notifications to your team channel. When an issue is created or assigned, a rich message appears in Slack with severity, project, screenshot, and a link to view the issue in OverlayQA.

Connect Your Slack Workspace

  1. Open the OverlayQA dashboard and go to Settings.
  2. In the Slack integration card, click Connect.
  3. A Slack authorization page opens in a new tab. Select your workspace and approve access.
  4. The settings page updates when the connection is detected.

You only need to connect once. After the initial OAuth authorization, OverlayQA remembers your Slack connection.

Select a Channel

After connecting, click Select channel to choose where notifications are posted. You can pick any public or private channel the OverlayQA bot has been invited to.

For private channels, invite the OverlayQA bot to the channel first. It will not appear in the channel picker until invited.

What Gets Posted

OverlayQA posts a Slack message when:

Test Your Connection

After selecting a channel, click Test to send a sample message. This confirms the bot can post to your selected channel.

Change or Disconnect

To change the notification channel, click Change channel in the Slack integration card. To disconnect Slack entirely, click Disconnect.

Two-Way Sync

Slack threads sync back to OverlayQA. Thread replies become comments on the issue. Emoji reactions change status: checkmark to resolve, eyes to mark in review, X to reopen.

Use /overlayqa resolve <issue-id> or /overlayqa reopen <issue-id> to change issue status from any channel. Aliases: close, done, and open.

Each notification message includes a Resolve button and a View in OverlayQA link. Click Resolve to close the issue directly from Slack. Once resolved, the button changes to Reopen.
