Use the OverlayQA Plugin for WordPress
Last updated: October 22, 2026
OverlayQA for WordPress turns a published page or post into a shareable visual feedback link. Your client opens the link, enters their name and pins comments on the live page. Every comment lands in your OverlayQA project with a screenshot of what the client selected, ready for your team to work through.
Before You Start
- An OverlayQA account and a plan that includes client reviews.
- WordPress 6.8 or later and PHP 8.0 or later.
- A WordPress admin served over HTTPS. Localhost is allowed during development.
- Published, public pages or posts to review.
Install and Connect
- Install OverlayQA from the WordPress.org plugin directory and activate it.
- Open Tools > OverlayQA as an administrator.
- Confirm the data-sharing checkbox and select Connect OverlayQA.
- Sign in to OverlayQA and approve access to the intended workspace.
Tip: Each WordPress administrator connects their own OverlayQA account. No OverlayQA requests are made until an administrator connects and confirms the data-sharing checkbox.
Choose a Project
Under Where feedback goes, choose the OverlayQA project the feedback belongs to and select Save project. If no projects appear, create a project or ask its owner for access in OverlayQA, then refresh the page.
Create a Review Link
- Under Published pages and posts, find the page and select Create review.
- Select Copy link and send it to your client. The plugin does not email your client.
- Select Open review to see the review yourself.
Creating a review again for the same page and project reopens the existing review instead of making a duplicate. Anyone with the link can open the review, so share it with intended reviewers only. Manage access, expiry and feedback in OverlayQA.
What Your Client Does
Clients open the link in their browser, enter their name and click on the page to pin a comment. They do not create an OverlayQA account or install anything. See Client Share Links for what clients see.
What the Plugin Does Not Do
- It adds nothing to your public site: no script, widget, tracking code or feedback button. Its CSS and JavaScript load only on Tools > OverlayQA.
- It does not review drafts, private posts or password-protected pages.
- It does not review staging sites behind a login, private networks or authenticated previews. OverlayQA needs to reach the page without WordPress login cookies.
Disconnect and Uninstall
Select Disconnect to revoke the connection and remove the stored credentials. Existing reviews remain in OverlayQA. Uninstalling the plugin removes its settings for all administrators and sites; disconnect first, or revoke remaining connections in your OverlayQA account.
